Olpidium brassicae

Olpidium brassicae. Olpidium brassicae should be more thoroughly tested for virus transmission since not all viruses known to be carried by O. virulentus were tested on O. brassicae to exclude the possibility that O. brassicae has the ability to transmit the untested viruses Olpidium brassicae is a common fungal parasite of the epidermal cells of plant roots, especially plants in the family Brassicaceae (formerly Cruciferae). Accurate taxonomic knowledge is the foundation for further discussions and studies of pathogenicity and ecological role

Olpidium brassicae is a plant pathogen, it is a fungal obligate parasite. In 1983, the Alsike, Alberta area's clover (which is a major part of horses ' diet) was struck by a fungus epidemic of Olpidium brassicae, previously not seen in Canada - classification : Fungi, Chytridiomycota, Chytridiomycetes, Incertae sedis, Incertae sedis, Olpidiaceae - English names : Olpidium seedling blight, root burn disease There is no doubt that Olpidium brassicae is globally widespread. Presently it is not considered as a serious pathogen of tobacco, because it mainly affects plants in nurseries and its outbreaks are relatively rare

Olpidium brassicae zoospores contain four to six mitochondria grouped around the nucleus: microbodies are closely associated with the nucleus and mitochondria and casually associated with lipid bodies in the cytoplasm; ribosomes are scattered in the cytoplasm; a rhizoplast, 0.65 μm long, extends from kinetosome and non-functional centriole to an area near the nuclear membrane and consists of. Dang, is a chytrid fungus described by WORONIN (1878) and assigned to the genus Olpidium by DANGEARD (1886). Although some controversy exists concerning the taxonomy of Olpidium brassicae (GROGAN and CAMPBELL, 1966; MACFARLANE, 1968a), we have chosen to maintain this. One such pathogen is the genus Olpidium. This genus of fungi has been of interest the agricultural field, as one species, Olpidium brassicae, has been shown to be a disease vector in a wide variety of plants including cucumber and lettuce plants. The fungus can infect lettuce roots, and transmit lettuce big-vein disease through its zoospores.

Olpidium is a zoosporic fungal genus, with 30 ~ 50 described species, many of which are obligate endoparasites of algae, plants, small animals and other fungi. There has not been any genus-wide systematic study on Olpidium and the taxonomic status of Olpidium needs to be evaluated. Most of our knowledge of Olpidium is based on studies on the root parasite species of O. bornovanus, O. Especie: Olpidium brassicae: Es un patógeno vegetal, es un parásito obligado por hongos.
